What's a ship you lost interest in but later returned to?

[personal profile] scissorsevered 2023-02-11 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I was obsessed with Fire Emblem Awakening in 2019 and shipped Chrobin (with female Robin) SO HARD. Then eventually my interest in the game faded as I got into other things. But now I'm back into it and obsessed with Chrobin again!

The Vital Spark.

MegaOp, I was really into it when I was starting on the fandom, then lost interest for a while because other ships were more interesting. Recently it has been having a return for me, I think it's all the Earthspark fanart, even if I haven't watched it yet.

When the original '03 anime of Fullmetal Alchemist aired, I was really into Ed/Roy but the fic/fandom either didn't really exist for it, was bad or I was simply too young to really appreciate any nuanced content that existed (or too bad at English at the time, as I'm ESL and just started getting better at English through English speaking fandom at around that time).

I checked out the pairing tag on AO3 last year on a whim and fell down the rabbit hole immediately. The fic after FMA:B appeals to me so much more than the fic set in the '03 series.

Recently, Vegeta/Bulma! Love those two but sadly not a lot of great fic.

That reminds me, I've been wanting to get into Dragon Ball! My stepfather loved it back when he was a teen when it first started airing in the United States, and he keeps pestering me to watch/read some of it lol.

Unrelated but wow, I feel old now. Hearing that people in my age bracket are old enough to be stepdads is kind of weird. Not a bad weird, just "never thought about it like that and it's blowing my mind that it's true" kind of weird.

Right? 😭

I love them, every few years I get a burst of feelings over them and go looking for fic... and then swiftly remember why all those attempts end so very quickly. They're a great ship but 95% of the fanfic is dire. xD

Trent/Daria, though it'd be more appropriate to say I'd completely forgotten about the series altogether until something reminded me a few years back.

They are one of my forever ships. I will always go back to thinking about Trent and Daria.

Victuuri (Yuri on Ice). They revitalized my interest in fanfic when that show was airing in 2016, and I stuck with it as my main ship for years while I waited for some kind of canon sequel to come out. It never did. Instead, the studio kept churning out other anime while ignoring one of their biggest hits, and I lost interest, largely because it was painful to hold on while constantly feeling ignored.

I came back to it a couple years ago because I felt a huge hit of nostalgia, and I've looped back around on the idea of the announced movie never happening. I almost ship the two of them harder now because of how pissed I am that some (presumably homophobic) anime execs fumbled so hard at failing to follow through on any kind of continuation.

The fact that the movie still hasn’t come out and they’ve never given us a concrete reason why bothers the crap out of me. I’m guessing whatever money they were using for the movie went to fund other projects.

I've gotten back into Frodo/Sam recently. I just honestly hadn't been in the LOTR part of the fandom in a while, being mostly in just the Silmarillion parts. But I've been rereading LOTR and it brought back my love of Frodo and Sam together.
