what IS the connotation? googling 'sacred and the profane' just gave me a lot of religious books but I don't know what 'Zira(h)' refers to in that context? I have been seeing 'Zira' since I first read the book in 1995 and found fic on an obscure Web site.

It's a Good Omens fic from the early 2000's, a roleswap AU where Aziraphale was the one who fell. This demon version of him is called Zirah. The fic itself is actually quite good, but suffice it to say that Zirah is not a fluffy character.

I don’t know what percentage of the fandom has read it, but as far as I can tell, it is pretty well known. At least, I've seen others express feeling a certain dissonance seeing Zira/Zirah used as a cute nickname for Aziraphale specifically because of that fic.
