I am a bit frustrated that the car-free crowd I work with in my city advisory role don't seem to have a plan to counter the backfire effect that their stance can/will trigger. In fact, I'm annoyed with any activist group that does not publicly acknowledge the challenges posed by the backfire effect.

Ugh yeah. Where I live, public transportation is either a) very expensive and/or b) really bad as soon as you get outside the cities and there is a severe lack of park&ride options. But anti-car activists completely ignore that most of the time.
