Seriously, Starfleet, invent a fucking lightswitch. Just because it is dark outside in space doesn't mean it should also be so inside the ship.

As someone whose roommates all seem to prefer living in mole-people darkness (and bright-ass screens), I feel this in my bones. You can tell which rooms I've been in around the house if you can SEE lmao

Meanwhile I prefer things darker and hate that the rest of the world seems to prefer when things are super bright to the point of hurting my eyes. You don't need 20 lights on in broad daylight.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-26 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
No, you don't need that. Others might.

Sure. And I don't complain to other people about how they keep their places, I just deal with the brightness. But I don't keep my bedroom or my office particularly bright.

Fully agreed.

I also feel like older bridge designs actually looked like they were places where people could, you know... work. Which is what they are! These are workspaces. They should be at least a little functional.

Yeah they don't seem very futuristic to me, they feel very... now. In other Treks the ships always looked like they were built in 300 years.

But that screenshot especially the bridge just looks bland and industrial. Also the Captains chair looks uncomfortable as fuck.

Gotta agree, that's just UGLY. And it looks incredibly uncomfortable to work at for, you know, HOURS.

I never understood why everything was darker in the reality where Tasha Yar didn't die.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-27 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
She was a ray of sunshine and illuminated everything, no need for different light sources when she's here.

I assume they're riffing on TOS design, which was more angular than 80s/90s Trek.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-27 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah - I’m not up on all the current Treks but I think this is Discovery’s bridge, which is set before TOS, right? So it makes sense that the design riffs from that (and is even a bit clunkier).

I don't care about the look but I hate that this designs are unusable. Why this stairs are even their?! Where are ramps?
Why there is no seat belts? Why there is nothing to hold on too? This stations are vehicles too. If there is no ambient light maybe there should be lights above stations?
This is all annoying
