TBF, hetshippers know that their POV is the default, while M/M and F/F shippers have been vilified for a pretty hefty chunk of fannish history for 'dirtying' platonic same-sex friendships with their icky slash cooties. So it's not exactly a surprise that hetshippers wouldn't feel the need to get hyper-defensive when "will they/won't they" or "when will they hook up" is the default lens through which every single main male/female character dynamic is viewed and it's the platonic "can't they just be friends" perspective that's the outlier.

Not defending the "homophobia"-wolf-criers, I totally feel you there and wish more of fandom was into gen or friendship stuff. Just explaining why one side might feel a teensy bit more self-protective than the other.
