For a lot of canons, I'd agree. Especially considering that, one, most canons are a lot more comfortable showing (or implying) romance than sex, and two, they generally just throw in a romance or two involving major characters. If you ship practically anyone who didn't happen to be in that charmed circle, fandom's your only hope.
