(Anonymous) 2023-02-27 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)not that i ever would; the first two bats, at least, are a legacy that can't be tarnished by anything - i will go to my grave never understanding how bat 1 didn't get a full album dlc pack for rock band 3; he was likewise a big part of my youth (my dad was a fan) and that won't ever go away

(Anonymous) 2023-02-27 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)Less about the circumstances of his death, but his slide into right wing MAGA definitely complicated my enjoyment of him and his works.
I grew up hearing stories about my parents seeing Hair, and I was 10 when Bat Out Of Hell II came out, which is the perfect age to learn about Jim Steinman and rock opera. To say nothing of my high school RHPS obsession...
It's extremely jarring to have love for a performer for their groundbreaking and transgressive works...only for them to go hard right.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-28 12:25 am (UTC)(link)This is a huge part of my complicated feelings. I had no idea about the MAGA stuff nor his antimask stance until he died. It’s further complicated because my parents were of an age with him and were big on masks but still went out the restaurants with their friends constantly and we had a big rift because I told them that was dangerous. My parents went out to lunch with friends who had what they thought were colds and turned out to be Covid. My mother died a horrible death six weeks later. I hadn’t quite found balance with my grief when Meat Loaf died and I think everything got very tangled up for me.

May your Mother's memory be a blessing, and I hope you have an easy return to equilibrium. <3
