My sense is that he's always been very much a Serious Intense Artiste type of actor, if that helps at all.

I hadn't heard that - my sense was that he just focuses more on teaching these days and doesn't need the money.

AFAIK Cirroc Lofton suggested that he had been blacklisted but I haven't seen anything that would confirm that

It is less that he is blacklisted in the traditional sense, but more that Brooks can get a bit too intense for people to want to hire him. Brooks could always take his acting up to eleven when he wanted to, but he started starting at eleven, IYSWIM, and that wasn't what people were looking for.
