i'm old but my sense of taste and smell are keen as fuck. if there's a single drop of alcohol in something, I will smell and taste it. for me it just smells and tastes like paint thinner or some other strong chemical and my reaction upon tasting it is "blech!" i also associate the fermented smell with the smell of fermented trash so that doesn't help.

Can you detect if there's alcohol in food too?

I've found that if there is red wine or beer in a dish, it's all I can taste and it's disgusting. White wine I don't mind so much but it still stands out quite a lot.
