There’s at least one FSer who has this whole thing about Martha was a sexist and racist character because she didn’t work as a medical doctor in every episode or something. Because apparently all the other companions kept their careers in the TARDIS.

I'm not the anon with the RTD hateboner, but I am familiar with conversations about Martha elsewhere and...that's not it.

The most common complaints about RTD's writing for Martha are, in addition to her season being overshadowed by the pining for Rose to the point where she left /because/ of the pining, she was the only companion in that run who was /put/ to work while traveling. Twice. In time periods that were not safe for her. It wasn't that she "wasn't working as a doctor", it was that she /had/ to do other work in racist surroundings, for some reason.

She was absolutely fantastic in the role and any problems were 100% with the material she was given. I'd definitely love to see her again in a special or in Big Finish.

She gives the vibes that she just wanted first dibs on being the first female doctor, so it wouldn't surprise me if she doesn't come back again for the part.

I really fell out of love with everything DW for a long stretch and so I haven’t seen any of her episodes yet. I think she looks like an awesome Doctor from the trailers I’ve seen but I’m also aware that even the most hardcore fans say the whole era was very weak so I’m waiting a bit longer before I give her a watch.
I’m looking forward to RTD because one thing he was good at was managing arcs and still giving us complete episodes. Moffat did that brilliantly as a writer under RTD but couldn’t manage it as the showrunner. My hope is that RTD still has a knack for building the right team to bring everything together. That would really help me get through the back catalogue of New Who.
