The song isn't actually used in the movie, but with that said, your comment is probably more apt than you think.

Like, if you take themes of childhood innocence and parental love, and then you imagine what those things would mutate into if you trapped them inescapably inside one's childhood home with some kind of cosmically corrupting and devouring entity, until everything was digested down into nothing but a few remaining granules of despair in the shape of a four-year-old child...you'd have this movie.
