Guess who saw the secret mentioned here and ONLY knew it was Weiss Kreuz because of that.
The way this series doesn't represent anything to me (a bishounen anime fan with over 300 "completed" anime on a '07 MAL account) is a mystery in itself but I bet it says a lot about its quality. Maybe I watched a few episodes in a distant past. Maybe I never cared enough to watch. Who knows?

Anyway, sympathies, anon. Nostalgia glasses are a bitch, truly.

Oh man, this takes me back. We watched this in anime club in college. Unfortunately, we watched the legal copy instead of a downloaded fansub. We basically had to make up the plot ourselves because the official subs had random characters all over and it was unreadable.

Honestly, though, from what I remember of the plot, you were better off making it up. XD

My entire knowledge of this is:

1: very gay
2: thus people back in the late 90s-early 00s made crossovers with every other fandom that could be interpreted as very gay

This takes me back. My clearest memory of WK is a crossover fic with Gravitation, where Shuichi was Omi after Omi had left the organisation. I headcanon'ed the shit out of that idea.

Omi had been in a relationship with either Ken or the red-haired dude from his team before he left and I loved shipping Shuichi with someone not-Yuki.

lol that seems to track. I vaguely remember when my friend who was into Gravitation made me watch it - and at the time I was young enough that as much as I loathed Shuichi/Yuki (which was like the entire point of the series, wasn't it?), when she got into Shuichi/Ryuichi I was like "but it's CANON, you can't actually ship them with other people because it doesn't make sense with CANON!" I was young and dumb and very new to shipping in general (always more the gen fan).

But yeah now decades later when I have embraced "do whatever amuses you, it doesn't have to work with canon", I'd ship Shuichi with pretty much anyone other than Yuki too, including crossover ships. I remember thinking Yuki was awful.

Anon who is still salty about Maki Murakami's treatment of Shuichi/Ryuichi just wanted to add +1 to "would rather ship Shuichi with anyone else"

Shuichi/Ryuichi shippers unite. This is giving teenage!me so much validation :D

Ayrt

Haha, that was my exact reaction to Shuichi/Ryuichi as well! Teenage!me was hoping so badly that S/R might become canon in the sequel because I just couldn't move past the fact that Shuichi/Yuki was canon.

But I think the sequel actually cast Ryuichi as a bad guy? Or at least it seemed to go that way so I dropped it very quickly.

...I never was aware there was a sequel, I honestly couldn't stand anyone in that show except Hiro and K so I had no interest in watching more once my friend had made me watch what she had (partially as badly subbed Chinese knockoffs that got everyone's name wrong). XD Some good songs though, I will give it that.

Ha ha, Schuldig's theme song. Whew chile, that man could NOT sing.

The music was hilarious. The openings and endings were alright but damn, some songs were rough. Would have benefited from some autotune and/or better sound mixing in a lot of places.

I remember having downloaded several of the songs (which was a feat in of itself considering the time and state of the internet) and there was A LOT with the voice actors doings whole concerts and shit iirc. Bosanova Casanova was great (even though the song ... was not great lol) because Ran/Ken was my OTP and hey, just look at those lyrics.

And while it was kinda the cool shit to do to dump English words in every few seconds, Saigo no Bansan really took the cake.
Ah, good times.

Can't relate, always knew the show was a hot mess but the music is really good! It's unpolished despite being arranged in an idol style, but I think that adds a huge amount of texture and character to the songs.
