I wish people would stop talking about how bad and "harmful" Colleen Hoover's books are. I wouldn't even know who she was if it weren't for all the pearl-clutching about her, but hey thanks, now you've got me curious enough to maybe trainwreck myself just to see if she's as awful as you claim.*

*No, I can assure you without having read her books that she is not, she's just another mediocre author using the same problematic tropes that mediocre authors have been using since the dawn of literature and you've just picked her to credit with the downfall of women's rights, just like you did with Stephenie Meyer before her, because she's popular.

Okay, I haven't read her books so I can't argue on the 'using the same harmful tropes as everyone else' front, but apparently the book It Ends With Us is about domestic abuse and she... was going to release a colouring book. Like... that is a special level of obliviousness.

What happened to a few years back when adult colouring books were all the rage, though? I can't help but feel if it hit a few years earlier it wouldn't have caused the stir it did now.

I got through about two chapters of It Ends With Us and the writing is just bad. Really, really bad.

NAYRT Know barely a thing about the author, have dealt/am dealing with DV/DA, and if I came across a coloring book about DA I'd get the urge to start violently destroying everything. DA is not fun and I don't want to "deal with it" via coloring books. Some survivors might find it therapeutic but others might not. And I'd rather err on the side of sensitivity than take the chance to make a buck off of it.

not only that, but it's allegedly heavily based on the abuse her mother went through. so she profited off her mother's abuse once and thought it was a good enough idea that she was going to do it again with a coloring book
