I feel you OP. In one of my fandoms, I'm a huge fan of a femslash ship but they have no content because Character A is widely despised by the fanbase and Character B is mostly shipped with another character who is male. Pretty sure they only have 5 works for their tag on AO3.

Aw man, in mine, the femslash ship I like... neither character is despised, but Character A is well-loved and popular, Character B is mostly ignored by the fandom (some people find her annoying but not enough to hate)... and Character A gets shipped more with two *other* girls, one of whom I kind of hate, the other I just don't care about to the point that I'm annoyed when I see her but it's like... meta-annoyance? Any works the ship I like gets tagged in they're an afterthought-level side ship.

I can think of several of mine that it could apply to, but probably doesn't because most of my fandoms are small. What I mean is that trying to guess would probably be futile because it could apply to so many fandoms.

No way. Lucius is definitely not a random side character no one cares about. People love him, plus there's close to 1000 fics for that pairing on AO3, that's not no fan content. It could be Izzy and someone else, I guess, but I'm having a hard time figuring out who it could be. Also, I don't know that I'd call Izzy the most hated character. I mean, a lot of people hate him, but a lot of people love him, too. I'd call Calico Jack the most hated character in that fandom. I suppose it could be him and someone?

But honestly, I'm thinking it's probably some small, obscure fandom. I feel like when there are secrets about large fandoms, people say what it is because they know it'll get more comments.

Same here. I ship the main character with a super minor character with whom he has barely interacted, and is even sometimes portrayed as his love rival. I don't care, means I can imagine their dynamics completely to my liking. :)
