Trying to figure out if I am too old for a hostel (in Seattle, NYC, or San Francisco) since that is probably the only way I'll be able to afford a solo trip. So I might just not do a solo trip.

I've never really liked the idea of hostels personally, but I think some hostels might offer options that are still affordable but offer a little more privacy than just sleeping in a dorm room? Might be worth looking at

Too... old for a hostel? What do you mean? Do hostels have age limits? I thought they were for anyone who couldn't afford a hotel or just wanted to save money.

I am not sure if it's applicable to USA but we have usually much cheaper hotels if they are remote.

For me it's like what isn't going on. I just spent a bunch of time typing up meeting minutes (you know, a fun weekend activity) and sent those out for review. I've also review/sorted a few hundred photos from different vacations and projects. Now I'm just waiting for a livestream to start.

I'm on mixed day/night shifts all this week, some days I'm on nights and some nights I'm on days, twelve hours at a time. I'm dreading it. Even my day off is not gonna feel like a day off because I get it coming off a night, so technically still working that morning, going into a day shift the next day so starting at 6am. That means I will be sleeping most of my day off, then going straight into work again immediately thereafter. How is that a f---ing day off then? I hope whoever drew up this rota can never wear socks again without them falling down inside their shoes, and that every time they wipe their arse the paper tears and their fingers go through it.

That is like....actual torture. What do you do?

Holy shit, that's one hell of a rough schedule. Like, shouldn't-even-be-legal kind of rough. I'm sorry, anon. :(

I've read that shift workers can sometimes get Modafinil prescribed to combat their fatigue from having to function in opposition to their natural circadian rhythm. That might be an avenue for you to check out, particularly if you have to do difficult shift-work on the regular. (You can also buy it online, pretty much risk free, just FYI.)

Wow, wtf. Day shift, yes, night shift, yes, but mixed up like that? NOPE.
I do three 12 hour overnight shifts, and it gets wearing by the end. If i get a *full day off* after my last night shift, I could easily come in and do a day shift, but man, I gotta have the one day of down time!

Maybe they endlessly lose their keys.

I had a dream to became public transport driver but they have morning/evening 8 hour shifts. I can't do even this.

I'm so sorry nonny. I worked a 12 hour rotating shift schedule (not exactly like yours) and I was always irritable and miserable. I hope you can truck through this week!

Just got done with work for the next few days, bought some groceries, and now I’m playing with ChatGPT. It’s not the greatest writer on earth, and I’m certainly no OP of #2 from yesterday, but when I want a quick fix, I just tell it “please write a story where a cool person named Anon meets famous actor Celeb McCrush and they fall in love” and damned if it doesn’t satisfy. It’s like fast food.

Celeb McCrush? Is that the actual prompt or do you swap that out for real people's names?

Either way, I'll bet you the results must be hysterical in a late night drunken Mad Libs party kind of way. Sounds fun.

My body has been a disaster today since I woke up feeling pretty good and thus thought it was safe to try eating something. (It wasn't.) But while stuck in bed I think I finished a drawing I've been working on. I think I want to leave it as a pencil sketch because I like the sketchiness of it (and I mean "sketchy" in multiple ways, lol).

I really should go do my daily pokestop spin though. I just know it's going to be a miserable 5 minute drive. :/

I wish bath houses were more of a thing here in the UK. I'm currently unable to take a shower that's longer than 2 minutes and staying with my family means that I have no right to actually fix it.

Really overwhelmed at the moment. Still working on grief, and feel like I need some space to do that. Having the whole family here was really nice. But now I just feel exhausted and want some space. My sister and brother-in-law are so high energy and take over everything. I just want to breathe. And sleep.

Just got back from my aunt and uncle's 65th anniversary celebration. It was bittersweet because my uncle was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. :(

Just booked an experimental bare-bones plane ticket to visit my mom for four days. It cost $47CAD round trip. Apparently the ticket cost was $0.52 and the rest is surcharges.

It's a half hour flight, and I get to bring one small personal item. I will definitely be wearing two pairs of everything that day, but I'm skinny and always cold, so that's not gonna be a problem.

I'm pretty apprehensive about flying (heh!) by the seat of my pants like this, but I figure, if it goes wrong, I'm genuinely only out fifty bucks, so it's worth a shot. Fingers crossed.

1) Our garage door opener needs repairs/adjusting. Oh joy.

2) I also have to pay for a junk haul service at the end of the month.

3) Laundry, AKA the Never Ending Story...

4) But on the bright side, I just bought a t-shirt with the Autobot logo on it, plus some other packages that are arriving soon. Yay for retail therapy?!!

Forty minutes until my day ends and I get to go home

Just got back from a party that a friend used to do every year but had to stop for 3 years because covid. Far less people than there used to be (understandably) but I had so much fun!

I have a solo trip tomorrow and I've been so tired and fatigued I haven't really packed. Doesn't help that when I went shopping I found nothing inspiring. Putting something that won't make me too uncomfortable or feel too deessed down for the event I'm going to has been rough. I hope whatever I put together will at least make me comfortable and feel not too negative about my looks.

I honestly feel like I shouldn't have gotten an expensive hotel since I'm rather broke...but I need a fucking break from the world.
