I also don't see what's the issue, as long as you don't actually believe that someone can just turn "not gay". I thought we had already moved on from the "Shipping = activism" thing...

Yeah, I'm queer myself so I definitely don't believe that. I just find it fun to ship any pairing if I think the characters have chemistry, regardless of their canon orientations.

We haven't moved on from "shipping = activism," at all. We've moved further towards it. Some people just think we've moved on because everyone knows that shipping slash isn't gay activism, and will use that fact to accuse slash shippers as a group of thinking they're doing gay activism by shipping even though virtually no slash shippers ever claimed to be. (Not only are they not doing gay activism, they're fetishizing gay men and erasing women, and need to put ladies in all their ships to cure their fetishizing and misogynistic ways. So actually shipping is still activism.)
