Same. The RPF ship I'm really into right now is two actors, not band members, but I feel the same way. I really don't get why people feel the need to mention their wives and kids. I feel like it used to be way more common that the wives/kids would just not exist in the fic, or it would be mentioned that they got divorced, and then they wouldn't be mentioned again. I really preferred that, I don't know why we can't go back to that.

For me it's that a lot of the people I'm interested in are people for whom their RL spouses are a major part of their lives! I can't really see them being the person they are if RL spouse was never there for them- and a lot of times if I've been following them for awhile you can really see them getting happier and more settled in themselves after their marriage - so I prefer fic that either acknowledges that or is set before they met and goes way AU. I especially get uncomfortable with fic that acknowledges the RL improvement in their lives after they met their partner, but credits it to their fandom otp instead.

(That said, fic that bashes them is the worst, and if the relationship *doesn't* seem to be making their life better I'm fine ignoring it.)

AYRT

Ah, yeah, I can see how that can make a difference. That doesn't really apply to my RPF ship, so I'd rather just ignore them. If I ever wrote for the pairing (which is highly, highly unlikely) I think I'd just pretend they didn't exist.
