I actually did the "just stop" thing *in* 2016. I looked at my phone on November 10th and was just like "Actually nope, I don't think there's going to be anything on there I want to look at" and did basically no social media at all for about two or three months, and then slowly came back to DW when I decided I actually authentically missed it and the people there in my life, and have been slowly adding back other things since; a lot of accounts I didn't even touch again for four years, and a lot of the ones I did come back to I dumped my whole follow list and started fresh, with a lot less doom - but I'm still not at the level I was in 2016 (I am on Discord a lot more but that's different ok). As depressing as the reason was, it's really good to know that I can dot that if I want to and things will be fine, and slowly picking back up only the things I truly wanted as I crawled back out has been really helpful.

Also I did read a lot more books in that period! Not being on social media meant I needed something to fill the time. They weren't stuff from my to-read list though, they were mostly trashy mystery novels.
