You would not enjoy Joanna Newsom, I think.

lol, I read this secret and immediately remembered many years ago when I tried to introduce a friend of mine to this new song I'd just heard that I couldn't stop listening to on repeat.

"...The harp is nice, but what's with her voice?"

Joanna Newsom sounds like Lisa Simpson.

Last time I tried listening to mainstream radio, half the singers sounded like that. So annoying. I miss variety in voices.

Yeah, it does seem like this kind of breathiness is really "in" at the moment

I'm not on Spotify - but I still find it weird when people have their whole song advertised in an advert. Like, I already hate the concept of adverts on youtube and spend most of my time waiting for it to be over - which means ignoring whatever is supposed to be avertised; so when a song comes up as an ad I just want to skip it as a knee-jerk response.

Just gave her a listen. I don't hate it. It's pretty middle of the road, for sure. I feel like in fifteen years I'll hear a song of hers and be able to guess by the sound of it that it came out in the early 20's, but eh, it's fine. I also don't really think of her voice as "fake baby." It's more like "I'm a bad bitch but also vulnerable and relatable." It definitely does feel affected, though, I agree with that.

Okay, just listened/watched about 20 seconds of two music videos

1. It's very much a "style" of singing. She sounds like w couple of other people who feature in songs/gave sorta dance-y/feelings songs that have come out in the last five or seven years. I wouldn't be able to name her in s line up, vocally.

2. Music videos are giving me suburban emo/indie vibes AND perhaps most grievous of all, she looks like she's lip syncing. Actively. Like there's a way to do it where it still looks like you're actually the one doing the singing in real time, and this is not how you do it. They need to hire someone to fix that video/sound editing or train her better, something! Because I know the money isn't being spent on the wardrobe...

Overall, I probably wouldn't listen to her. Giving me Jessie Reyes and some other people whose names I never learned. Not for me, and I dislike those kinds of ads too. I get why, but either show me something I might like it something so different I would be curious.
