Paul's words were far more complicated than you're remembering. Please read his letters again with historical context firmly in mind. As for the blessing, I'm referring to the centurion and his servant. You'll want to pay particular attention to specific word choices in the original Greek.

And yes, the new covenant did simplify Jewish laws, because men had screwed things up by keeping the letter of the law rather than the spirit. In that, a bunch of other stuff became okay. Leviticus happens to be the only bit that specifically names homosexuality as an abomination, and it does so while also naming vegetable gardens and men who shave as abominations as well. So any anti-homosexual argument that uses Leviticus as a basis is flawed from the start, especially if the speaker doesn't even keep kosher.

I'll have a look at the slave thing. I've never heard that interpretation before.

Also, you might want to argue with the person who was agreeing with you about Paul. They think Paul condemned homosexuality.
