I'm exactly the same way, as many others have said, not necessarily because of fandom, but because of how I feel about dating and being in a relationship in general. I have never been one to be able to casually date somebody to get to know them, because I just am not comfortable with the idea.

They don't have to be my best friend, but I feel like I have to have some sort of deeper connection with a person than merely spending 10 minutes with you at a party to want to date you or have a relationship at all with you. I get to know people through friendship, I develop an even deeper connection with someone through mutual interest and dating.
