(Anonymous) 2023-04-12 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)It can be considered a slur when it’s used to refer to transgender people, because it’s not a term that can be used as an umbrella for every trans person. Because sex and gender are different things. But transsexual people exist too, and nobody has the right to try to invalidate your identity. I just don’t think that anon was trying to do that. There is some transphobes in this community, so they were presumably trying to stop more transphobia from being spread here. And while I can understand and sympathize with that, as a trans man, I don’t think I agree with trying to control what secrets get made in the way they did. And certainly not blaming the secret maker for not feeling comfortable making that decision either. It’s fine that they want to leave the community though, that’s their right and they should do what’s best for their mental health.
It would be nice if there was a moratorium on secrets that expressed transphobic rhetoric and general bigotry, that would help transsexual people as much as transgender people. But it’s easier said than done. Especially because people should still be able to make secrets about works and people that are transphobic(not counting a specific instance, of course). That can help people vent their feelings about the work. So limiting it to only transphobia expressed by the secret maker, but not limiting it if it’s about transphobia or transphobes. That sounds like an overly complicated moratorium to make. That’s what I mean when I say it’s easier said than done.
