Watch it just once more and then again if you keep missing it: they’re together. Remember the whole thing about kids? She wants a kid and he doesn’t and a HUGE subplot is him getting stuck with the kids and warming to children in general. There are interviews with Steven Spielberg and Sam Neill for sure about the relationship and I seem to recall Laura Dern joking about it in one of this interview clippy things they always had as time fillers on like Encore and Bravo.

Yeah, I was pretty young and not a shipper in the slightest when I saw the first movie, but even I picked up on that fact.
