Online Communities - where is yours?

(Anonymous) 2023-04-25 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Secret #3 got me thinking - where do you go for your online community or fandom fix these days?

I had a tumblr after LJ collapsed, but that didn't last too long and now I just kind of float around. I stop in a few subreddits now and then but it's just not the same.

Here and Tumblr. Tolkien fandom is really active on Tumblr, we have a nice community there. And then this community is great.

And then AO3 for fanfic, but not really much talking about fandom there.

I don't really have a fandom atm. That's part of the problem for me, honestly. Everything revolves around really enthusiastic passion, whereas I'm just kind of mildly interested in random things. Hard to find a community around that.

Twitter is my main online home (at least for the moment) although my presence there isn't explicitly fandom-connected.

Otherwise, here and other anon memes mostly.

Here, like this actual comm. Sometimes I'll take a look at what other comms are active on DW to see if I can find a fandom I'm interested in. I never join tho. Just lurk.

I trawl through Tumblr occasionally, in search of fic an author may have not shared on AO3.

I'm hesitant to join discord groups run by my favorite fic writers. I kind of like keeping the distance? Plus I don't want to interact too much with a bunch of randos. It's effort to open up the browser and come here specifically vs having notifications going off on my phone because I have the discord app.

nowhere really anymore :( wish there was somewhere

Same, honestly. Sure, I participate in some fandoms but it's mostly kids (well, teens and twentysomethings, maybe early thirties at most) participating and I want to talk to folks my own age, not just them.

Twitter mostly, primarily out of laziness. I want to start fresh on Tumblr but actually starting a new account and finding people to follow is such a hurdle.

Also, Reddit, but primarily because being a part of a Reddit community feels like it requires a lot less upkeep than other fandom communities. I can just drop a comment into the void and then maybe reply to a reply, and then disappear for weeks. No need for consistent engagement

Yeah I got a Tumblr a couple years ago and the only friend I've made on there is my friend who I invited to join Tumblr because it was lonely lol
I really don't know how to open up conversations with strangers online

Mostly Tumblr, although I keep looking in on Reddit to consider joining in (I'm really new and still figuring how things work).

Post a lot to Ao3 and weirdly enough still talk to people in the Undertale fandom on Deviantart - even though the latter website is on the way out one terrible decision after another thanks to the clowns running the site (Groups are literally one of the few things that didn't get updated during the Eclipse update, so I still go through them even though the other non-Undertale fandom groups I follow are mostly dead. I'm even going through one because I'm currently in a fandom that was really active in 2015-ish and have plenty of fanworks to check out).

I tried with Pillowfort, but ended up feeling too intimidated to interact on there.

Mostly just here. Some tumblr, but most of the people I talked to there aren't there anymore either.

Tumblr. I checked out tumblr early on, hated it, and came back years later when most of the real wankers had moved to twitter.

I come on here more than anywhere else but my engagement can be really sparse at times

I'm on Tumblr but not in a real way. It's more like diary entries on my blog that I don't write in often enough, I reblog a few inspirational words from time to time too, to who? No one really. The only people who follow my blog is my one friend.

I just interact here.

I have a twitter that's private and I usually reblog fanarat/orginal art from there to share with my friends, but I don't really write anything.
I also have a tumblr, but I just lurk mostly. I sometimes reblog, but it's just to keep my favorite posts/gifsets on my blog, not to interact with anyone.
I have a reddit account, but I just lurk sometimes on the fandom reddits. I first got into reddit to partecipate in the SIF Love Live (a gatcha game) subreddit, but when I lost interest in that, too.

Apart from F!S and AO3, Internet is mostly boring nawadays for me. :( I miss forum boards.

I really don't have one.

Or maybe I have several?

I come here, I'm on tumblr, I follow sub reddits for fandoms but they are either too big for conversations or too small for traffic, I'm on several discords, and so on.

I don't have a real fandom "community" I have half a dozen individuals I can talk with about certain things. And places I can go to watch the world go by, but making new contacts is ROUGH.

I wouldn't call my tumblr a community, it doesn't feel like the LJ comms of old, more like just me and my carefully curated, small friendslist (mutuals).

Every once in a while I remember that subreddit for my condition exists and I read some posts there, but I don't join conversations.

I check here every day :)
