Yeah, well, some of us ADORED Marian from the get go, fought her corner from the first episode when most of the rest of the fandom were calling her cold and immature and RAGED when she was killed.

And half those people who MOCKED US back in the day are getting remorseful and weepy about how they miss her NOW?

(Although I agree there ought to be epic Isabella/Marian BFF fic... frankly I think all the girls on RH should have just teamed up and sorted the lads out YEARS ago but maybe that's just my not particularly subconscious desire for lesbian subtext on the show. :P)

I did kind of dream up a fairly epic scenario in which RH was taking place in a world where all the traditional gender roles have been reversed - so Marian had gone off to fight in the Holy Land, Queen Eleanor of Aquatain was on the throne with her two sons squabbling over power whilst she was off leading the army in the Crusades; Marian had Kate as her 'Much' figure, who had loyally followed her off to the Holy Land and returned at her side; Robin had been left behind in Locksley with Much, and Isabella had been put in charge of Knighton in Marian's absence (Guy would turn up later somehow as Isabella's down-trodden and abused little brother who she'd sold into an unhappy marriage). The Sheriff's sister Davina would be the new Sheriff of Nottingham, with Isabella as her ambitious but wounded and brooding right hand woman. The gang would consist of Marian as its leader, Kate as the reluctant cook/dogsbody, Djaq, Alice (Little John's wife - Little John having been left in Locksley to look after their son), Roy's mother (did she even have a name?), Eve, Matilda, Will and Allan.

Now if I only had the time and the will power to write such a thing...

although... my one suggestion would be that Djaq, as the most 'masculin' character should be the "Much/cook" figure
as Much was always made out to be in some way "feminine"

I'd love to but right now I honestly don't have time. I have SO MUCH other fic to write in the Merlin fandom (not least my Big Bang fic which is going to take at least another 25,000 words to complete; plus two other chapter fics and a bunch of one shots that have been bouncing around my harddrive for god knows how long). Maybe some day, but certainly not in the forseeable future. I've all but left RH fandom anyway - I just like to stick my head back in every now and again to see how things are going for Much and Allan.

I TOTALLY AGREE, OP!!!
I started watching after the end of Season 2, so I knew of Marian's death before I begun Season 1 - but it took me a good while to learn to love Marian, but I loved Isabella straight away.
I think they would have been AWESOME BFFs, though. Maybe Marian would have helped Isabella be a little less bitter?
