IAWTS. Everyone in the US is calling him jailbait, but to me, his age is no problem whatsover. It seems weird for people to have issues with him being "only" 17, cos here, 16 is fine and dandy xD

I just googled it and according to this (http://www.avert.org/age-of-consent.htm), the average worldwide age is 16 anyway, hah. It makes interesting reading seeing how it varies from state to state...I assumed that it would be the same all over the US for some reason.

In some states in the US the age of consent used to be 12

I love it when Americans assume that alien planets/human in the future/*medieval fantasies/etc are the same as the US in regards to legal matters

I'm going to write a Storm Hawks fanfic where one of the characters sleeps with her boyfriend because she's become legal at sixteen.

I'll have great delight in pointing out that since it's a Canadian show and the age of consent is 16 in Canada that this law also applies to the show

And in Massachusetts! Except for the "previously chaste life" exception which has literally never been used. (Massachusetts is a weird state. It's Puritan…but Irish Catholic…but we have gay marriage and 16 is the age of consent…)

What's odd to me though is that because of other peoples' comments I've gotten into the mindset of "he's underage", and he is literally a year younger than me. Hee!

The age of consent is 16 in 29/50 US States and for US military personnel (when based outside of states which have higher statutory ages of consent) is 16, so surely the Federation age of consent would also be 16?!! (obv for heterosexual not homosexual sex but hopefully equality won't take 2-300 years to materialise.)

Also, age of consent in Russia is 16.

Therefore legal, so stop guilt tripping your characters, and get the sexy Russian whizkid laid moar. kthnx.

I don't think you should feel guilty. After all, he's risking his life at 17. The only thing I think is odd are those fics where Bones is fine and dandy with it. He should at least angst a bit and feel lecherous and old. XD

You know, I never get that. What if he's 17 and 50 weeks? Will people feel guilty then? Of course, I think the US is totally backwards on its consent laws, but anyways! I think that Chekov is old enough to be in the military speaks for itself.
