I always felt that Aang was too young for me to really squee about his shipping potential, but that was the same for fourteen year old Katara or sixteen year old Zuko.

I can fangirl their courage and heroism and determination and their sweetness, but shipping potential? They were such kids to me. I can manage it with other similarly aged characters, like Utena/Anthy or the cast of Glee, but not these guys.

Basically, I get your reaction.

A woman is not a reward. A person (of either gender) is not an object you get, like a medal, for being a hero. And shouldn't be.

I felt Avatar treated Katara as a reward to Aang for defeating Ozai, and pairing a 12/13 year old with a 14/15 year old is creepy IMO

I start to shipping them in the precise moment when Aang realized that he truly loved her and it wasn't just a simple crush anymore. I don't usually like canon pairings anyway, but I found the whole scene (and episode) to damn good to do not wish them two to end up together... or at least that was which I got. n.n

I gotta say I just finished watching Avatar via Netflix, and some of the canon relationships squicked me because almost all of the cast seemed way too young to me, except maybe like... Zuko. Maybe I thought that they were a lot younger than they actually were. I was only watching casually since I thought it was one of those things I should experience, so I never actually looked it up. I seriously thought that Aang was like... 10-12 or something, so all that stuff with Katara in the series just made me like D: D: D:

Well Yue and Jet will be dead by the time shipping can really go for end game....but maybe they can switch things up and have some weird romance plot between Mai/Zuko/Suki/Sokka and then maybe the occasional Ty Zula flirting scene but it would probably never go anywhere except for giving us subtext.
