There was major wank in Avatar:TLAB over ships, not over older woman/teen boy persay but between the Aang/Katara fans and the Katara/Zuko fans

I also can't help but laugh, because I know at least a few fans of couples featuring underaged characters are underaged themselves. So how can they be pedos? XD

It's possible to be underage and still be a pedo yourself

Meh, personally, I only start getting really disturbed if they're not developed or are just way too young (like twelve and younger, >.<). Everyone has their differet squicks/limits, though.

Yeah, honestly, I don't see it as such an awful issue when we're talking post-puberty fictional characters, especially when many of them are completely emancipated. I'd be squicked if it were about a modern suburban teen and an adult, just due to the protectiveness of our society and the weirdness we have towards the teenage years as a social status, making them a lot less experienced.

But when we're talking Sci-fi, fantasy, historical fandoms, where you're considered an adult once you're developed and can work/live on your own, I have no issue with that. I'm a little bothered by the fact that people are currently proclaiming that any attraction to someone under the age of 18 is pedophilia. 18 is not a magic number, people!

Granted, I wouldn't take the risk of dating a 17 year old, no matter how mature, just because of how the legal system can be. I still don't mind admiring them.

Me too. I mean, I understand not going after anyone under the age of 18, or fapping to real life porn of it or something, because that's definitely a legal issue.

But finding them attractive, especially in fiction, makes someone a pedophile? That makes no sense whatsoever.

When you start talking about the difference between pedophilia and ephebephilia, people start looking at you like you're just an overcompensating closet-pedo. :/ And going all 'why are you defending the sickos?' One kind of mild social inappropriateness [young adults aren't considered fair game due to inexperience; I can go by that] is very different from another full blown dysfunctional philia that hurts people.

I wouldn't even consider my attraction to certain teens as ephebephilia. I'm attracted to them as fellow adults. Young adults, sure, but adults, not post-pubescents or WTFE.
