This is not really true. You don't have to live as a black person or as an Asian person, or whatever. You just have to be... you know... not prejudiced - no hate and no superiority complex, just seeing them as human beings just like yourself. The path down that road begins with exposure.

The same is true about prejudices against any group of people that is different from yourself. Classism, political hate, et cetera, work in much the same ways.

Sorry, about that, I changed my wording a few times and ended up with a weird, in-between sentence that was the exact opposite of what I was trying to say. I was trying to say you DON'T have to be all up in another culture's business to not be racist.

Isn't it enough to say I'm not a racist because I believe people who do not share my racial and cultural heritage have just as much value as I do and just as much right to everything that I have a right to?

Or, to earn my "not a racist" label do have to start going to festivals and immersing myself in things I'm personally not particularly interested participating in?

And to be fair, I'm not really interested in participating in activities of the cultures I can lay a claim to, either. Nothing against anyone who enjoys Pow-Wows or a Cinco de Mayo celebration, I just don't. And that's fine, too.

I am the author of most of the anonymous comments to your comment, but I am not the poster of the secret. And my comments were directed to your instruction that the OP further attempts at being nonracist by attending cultural festivals. Which, as a recipe for not being racist, is something I don't think is a necessity. That was my point, and it if came across to you as defensive, I apologize. That was not my intention.

I don't think anon is being defensive at all; rather - and please don't take this as an affront - I think the lack of nonverbal clues that confused your earlier only worsened the issue.
