Would you mind explaining something to me? Is there some huge ship war going on between het fans and yaoi fans or something? Because I've seen a lot of animosity toward yaoi (and, in turn, slash) here at F!S, and I find it utterly baffling. I mean, last time I looked, I thought the two camps sort of stayed to themselves; I know I never had any real reason to venture to the het side of things. (Also, last time I looked, yaoi/slash fans didn't make themselves known to het fans, nor was there much cross-pollination between the two, so I'm dating myself here. :D)

I get that "het is ew" is getting to a point where it's annoying, but I don't understand this attitude that... you're "supposed" to ship more than one type? I'll admit that I'm primarily a slash/yaoi fan than a fan who's into a lot of fandoms, so usually it's a pairing that's my entry into a fandom... but I like thinking about guys, so.... I see a lot of people touting "I ship based on the relationship, not on the gender" - I kinda wonder... what is the interest level in sex with these people (bisexuals obv. excluded)? Not that I believe all slash/yaoi is about sex - I adamantly don't - but it's still there. And I also used to think when people say "ship," they mean they actively pursue exploring the pairing, through fic and whatnot, but now I'm beginning to think it means "I think they are/would be good together."

God, I feel like such an old fogey. "What're all these young whippersnappers doing?!" :D

First, I should say I will put about anyone with anyone. So yeah. And I dunno, I hunt for fic from a fandom, and maybe it's the type, but I will try the flavors so to say so really, terms only come up when I'm looking up the published stuff. So while yes, thinking back I mostly see people stick to there area I run into both and things like... I dunno, fic comms, unless they're yaoi only you'll run into all types.

I think I might have said too much up there, but long story short- No, you don't have to like everything. For god's sake, hate dogs if you hate dogs. But if you hate dogs because you love cats now, when you used to be a big fan of dogs, that just... sounds very weird and off to me. The point is what should my boyporn matter to my hetporn?

The het is eww by itself is honestly okay with me now. You like what you like, and that's cool. Eww yuri and just the VIOLENT reaction I get from yaoi fans? What? I remember I was carrying my yuri paddle the last con I was at, and just walking around, and god the amount of reactions I got from the yaoi fangirls! I had fun with it, but I did say to myself more then once "They don't cancel each other out! This existing doesn't hurt your yaoi D:" but yeah.

And I do agree I have to wonder about the sex part. And also huh, people do use ship a little difrently now a days when you think about it.... Personally how I think of ship is closer to you, if it's just "This might be interesting" I will call it such.

The point is what should my boyporn matter to my hetporn?

Well, in my case - I was into het before I got into slash, before I even knew slash existed. And once I found slash, I didn't give a damn about het. :D So that's where I assumed the OP was coming from, and I just feel like it's... kinda slash-bashing when people say "oh, it's just a phase" to like mainly slash. So what - since I'm still "going through" that phase, I'm "immature" and "shallow"? The fuck?

I always thought it would be a positive thing when yaoi fans could be open about their interests, but I didn't account for immature little girls who have to be catty toward each other no matter what their preference. :D Sucks you get any flack from them about liking yuri. You'd think they'd understand, but I guess slash is pretty dominant now, huh? And it's always a huge temptation from those in the popular groups to act like assholes, I guess. :D
