I had to take a break from that series for a while because the concept suddenly became a bit too... realistic. I still don't find the attempted suicides to be very humorous, but after a year I tried reading it and watching it again. There are other humorous aspects to the series. If you still want to read it, just wait a while and revisit it.

Trust me, if you read "No Longer Human" which of course, as we know, is the manga-ka's favorite book as well as Nozomu's favorite book, AND who the character of Nozomu is based after... you will look at this series SO differently.

Sure, it's still goddamn hilarious, but I can no longer find Sensei funny because he is nothing but TRAGIC.

I'd never heard of this before now and am somewhat intrigued. Is it an anime or a manga?

I haven't read the manga before. I read a couple of chapters before saying anything.

I do find it funny.

And I have attemped to take my life. I have had the thought for many years (since childhood, really, but then it was more a desire of dissappearing than well, suicide) and, in some way, I can understand what he's feeling. I actually failed one course at university this period because I stayed at the subway station too much time wondering whether to jump or not and didn't make it to the exam.

I haven't read the book but I think the manga is cute. I'm at the very first chapters and, at least for now, Nozomu is given some hope, even if he doesn't realize it. Something to live for, even if it's common or simple, someone who cares for him.

And there are times when just that, something that could seem so insignificant to any other person, makes you think that maybe life is not as bad as it seems.

Tragic as Dosai's novel was, I read Itoshiki as a drama queen who has a pretty sweet life and a love of melodrama.
