Because that's their POV of the character, it's their right to have it. I also wouldn't comment to criticize their tense choice, that's what they decided to go with.

YOU'RE the one who held it up as a shining beacon in a sea of OOC-fic, and I disagreed.

And full of energy doesn't preclude a bit of self-awareness, does it?

YOUTHFUL energy. I truly doubt someone with the level of serious business that people here like to claim Chekov has would go ripping through the halls of the ship yelling "I CAN DO THAT! I CAN DO THAT!" when two lives were on the line. It was cute. It was a very serious moment, he realized he could save them, and he behaved like a young, professional person.

Read as: you find this to be one of the only good characterizations. Read as: you think characterizations that don't fall in line with this as OOC (which hilariously would include the movie). Looking at the characterization in the fic you provided, I disagreed. I think that type of portrayal is interesting, I disagree with it, but I certainly enjoyed reading that fic, so no I didn't want to back button away. You are the one that said it was One Of The Best, and that is what I am arguing about.

If you dislike getting in a disagreement over something you've said, you probably shouldn't post here.

What I disagreed with was that you pointed out that characterization as a particularly in-character portrayal when it's frankly as off-base, albeit in the opposite direction, as the stuffed rabbit deal.

I don't want to debate with the fic writer over why they decided to write that, I think it'd be incredibly rude to attack someone's characterization of choice just because they posted a fic. I wanted to debate with you because you held it up as an example of something that I find to be a poor example. I'd be doing this if someone asked for a good book or movie of a genre and I disagreed with your recommendation as well.

But you backed down from your recommendation, apparently, and started making it about the fic, which it wasn't about. It's about the characterization within that you agree with, and could defend, if you think it's the proper one.
