What's the last good book you read?

(Anonymous) 2023-05-11 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I just read this children's book by an author that is apparently pretty well known but I had never heard of them, Margaret Peterson Haddix. The book was Running Out of Time and was just a fun quick read. I've been on a kick where I'm reading a lot of children's books, both because it suits my attention span and because since I didn't really start reading recreationally until near adulthood I missed out on a lot of fun little stories.

How To Sell A Haunted House by Grady Hendrix was fantastic. Just an outrageous horror movie.

I was thinking about reading that one, so I'm glad to hear it was good!

According to the website, it's in stock at my local Target so I'm going to try to get it when I go shopping tomorrow, and hopefully start it this weekend. I'm excited to read it!

I recently read it as well and 'bonkers in the best way' is definitely a good way to describe it lol.

It eases you into the fact that it's a horror book, reading the first few chapters I was like, "Oh yeah okay, this is gonna be existential and about the ghosts of the MC's past."

Nope. xD

I just finished Honey and Spice by Bolu Babalola and it was super good. I took off half a star for the annoying 'third act break up' that almost all romance novels seem to have but considering how well written the rest of it was, I still rated it 4.5 stars.

I just read 'Wool' by Hugh Howey. I liked it enough to have my library get the second book in the series, 'Shift'. Sometimes his word choices were a little repetitive, but the story itself was interesting.

Currently reading 'I Was Better Last Night: A Memoir' by Harvey Fierstein. REALLY enjoying it.

That one's been on my list for awhile. I remember reading that it was going to be a TV show soon (maybe it's already out by this point, I'm not sure).

Apparently, it started showing May 5th. :D

Technically the last one was More Than Enough by Elizabeth Wambheim (m/m Beauty & the Beast), which wasn't really my usual type of book, but it was pretty cute.

The one before that was I Will Find You by Harlan Coben which was really good if you like mysteries.

Kings Rising by C.S. Pacat (third in the Captive Prince trilogy) was the last good book I finished.

I'm currently reading A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik, which is also good so far.

Andy Weir, Project Hail Mary. It's a brick and because I bought it during the pandemic, when I was out of energy for anything but survival, it languished on my shelves for a couple of years. I've just burned through it in a week and it's adorable. I love Rocky, and the slow reveal of the protag's identity. And most of all I love the friendship, which is adorable.

Whoa, Running Out of Time! I made a secret about that book once!

I don't read much these days, but I kind of want to check out more of Margaret Peterson Haddix's books. She has a lot, but for some reason I only read the one.

Ayrt

Ha that's so funny! I must have missed it. What was the secret?

I just finished another of hers, the first in the Shadow Children series. Obviously aimed at a young audience but still fun!

I read a really interesting children’s book.

I beleive it was called “The Day the Crayons Quit“.
😃

Funniest thing ever.
