Yeah no. As a person who's been upfront about being autistic (originally diagnosed Asperger's even) I've encountered just as much nastiness mockery and out and out ableism online in the last decades . Told I can't consent , can't/shouldn't have kids, told I'm a burden on my family, told I'm selfish for not wanting a "cure"....

Oh, *that's* definitely true, but that's not even what I had in mind - just that autistic headcanons seem to be really common at the moment

For better or worse, a lot of authors write “weirdos” by giving them autism symptoms, and have for at least a century. (I don’t know enough about older books to know if this was a thing before Sherlock Holmes.)
