Overrated/underrated media

Are there movies, tv shows, tv episodes, any kind of media that you think are either overrated or underrated?


Inspired by seeing Blink and Midnight on a list of best tv episodes of all time the other day. Always thought those episode were super overrated.

Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon. It is basically 99% moody staring into the middle distance. I don't get it.

Yeah, I gave up on Game of Thrones about halfway through season one out of sheer boredom. How it became so popular is beyond me.

I've yet to run into anyone who hates it. A little bit pre-covid, my mother and I were in LA for vacation and we took a studio tour. When we got to the Friends couch set, we were the ONLY people to not immediately run over to pose and take pictures. It was the longest stop on the tour to accommodate everyone, which was really boring for us.

There are a lot of fans, and I mean a lot. But there’s also a lot of people who don’t like it as well. Both haters, and regular people who just don’t like it. And some people that might not hate it, but think Living Single should be more popular than Friends. Which I can agree with, because I love both shows a lot, but Living Single came first.

I agree. Maybe because it started when I was a kid and the characters were around my parents' age, but I just don't get it. My parents are still obsessed with it, though, and constantly quote it/compare various situations that happen to things that happened on the show. It's annoying.

I do that too, and I was already self-conscious that people find OG annoying. I can’t seem to bring myself to stop tho.

Brandon Sanderson is overrated in fantasy circles imo. I find his writing incredibly boring. Don't get what all the fuss is about but he shows up on every rec or faves list.

See, I hate Blink because it was way overhyped. But no one ever told me about Midnight and I loveeedddd it.

I still think The Revenant is the most overhyped movie I've seen in theaters. Really regret spending the money on a director's suite for that.

I also think The Quiet Place is just not a great horror movie. I think it is because of how stupid everyone seems.

I really don't get the appeal of Succession at all. I'm cool with watching a bunch of people be awful if they're at least doing cool evil things, but it's so damn boring to me.

To a lesser extent, Game of Thrones, but I at least get the appeal of it, even if it wasn't personally for me. (I expected it to be more LOTRish, but it's more...soap opera? than I expected.)

Also, The Good Place. I hated the finale so much that it ruined the show for me so when I still see people now talking about how great it is, it really gets on my nerves.

The Good Place is great. Hatred of the finale is reflective of weird personal issues, and I say this as someone who used to be suicidal.

That's a pretty presumptuous and judgmental thing to say. People are allowed to not like things. I've never been suicidal so maybe there's something I don't get about it, but I don't think it means I have weird personal issues. You think it's great, I do not. We're allowed to have different opinions, it's not that deep.
