Opposites game, tv edition

(Anonymous) 2023-05-19 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
You have two options: gritty/dark remake of an old comedy, or a comedy remake of an old serious/dark/gritty show - what show(s) are you choosing?

I choose adult/dark/serious remake of ALF.

OR a comedy/sitcom X-Files.
pantswarrior: Gumshoe looks like he's plotting something. (mischievous)

....I would be so in favor of either of those.

(The humorous episodes of X-Files were generally my faves anyway, why not turn it up to 11?)

Grimdark Spongebob, surreal comedy Battlestar Galactica. I mean full pythonesque too!

omg surreal comedy Battlestar would be amazing. I'm imagining Red Dwarf meets Parks & Rec.

A comedic version of Game of Thrones. At least that would fit the clown show we got in later seasons. Plus, they'd probably be more open to the magical stuff from the books.

Xena and Hercules universe, Game of Thrones-ified. Think of the all the drama actual gods would bring to the political intrigue!

I would love a Xena reboot that was a little darker and dealt seriously with the issues it touched on but also still captured the fun and humor of the original.

I don't know for gritty version of comedy, I don't watch many comedies. Maybe a gritty version of Night Court? Or a gritty HIMYM where the focus character turns out to be a total creep stalker.

For comedy remake of serious show, maybe an animated comedy version of Doctor Who. Or a comedy version of either Stargate or Sliders.

I was having this conversation with my brother and he said a dark Today's Special.

Which when you think about it, the basic plot of that show was kind of fucked up. This random magician gives a mannequin life but only controlled by other people with a special code word, he has to always be wearing a hat (that is easily knocked off) and is trapped in one building. Could so easily be a dark horror mystery about Jeff finding his freedom, or a twisted secret reason the magician brought him to life.

How does the mouse fit in?

I think Muffy the mouse should stay exactly the same. Add a little bit of random to the show. (I was just going down a rabbit hole of Today's Special and I 100% did not remember her only speaking in rhyme. I randomly remember a lot about that show, but not that. That bit could be skipped this time.)

The first season should be played where you're never sure if the other characters are in on the whole thing with the magician or genuinely Jeff's new friends. By the second season they'd be working towards found family vibes working against the big bad.

I'm getting too into this idea.

Dark and Gritty - Small Wonder.
Comedy - Alien Nation

Small Wonder as dark and gritty, I love it. So many options for where to go with that!

Comedy Twin Peaks

Comedy Game of Thrones that's more true to the book series than the original.

I'm torn.

Dark - A Sorkinesque version of NewsRadio, with grand passionate speeches about radio (though I'm thinking more West Wing, less The Newsroom) or a Lynchian version of Raising Hope á la Twin Peaks.

Comedy - a fake documentary workplace comedy version of Alias or a loving parody/comedy homage version of SeaQuest DSV in the style of Galaxy Quest

NewsRadio, Alias, Galaxy Quest, amd seaQuest DSV all in one comment - anon I think I love you.

Gritty remake of The Muppet Show that takes the concept of "a found-family of misfits united by a frog putting on a variety show in a super competitive 70s entertainment industry" 100% seriously

Comedy remake of absolutely any drama (with Muppets as characters)

DA

Yes. That and Happytown Murders are the reason I hate R-rated puppet media. I haven’t seen it done well anywhere else, but none made me as disgusted as those two.

I know it’s all up to taste, but I think Peter Jacskon’s non-LoTR filmography sucks. The Hobbit Trilogy included.
