Yeah, Family Guy was never “subversive,” because it was never really trying to say that much. It started out making fun of “family show” tropes, which was fun while it lasted. But they amped up the pointless meanness and ramped down the effort until entire seasons could be summed up as “Watch Peter and Brian drunkenly fuck shit up! Did you know that Meg’s ugly and gross, and Stewie’s hella gay?” It’s good for the memes though.
