I can see your point but I think maybe you’re unfamiliar with how this franchise is currently owned, written, and produced. Lower Decks is nothing like any of the other Trek shows or movies since 2009. It is the only one that is different from a rebooted universe. And that difference is, in this case, one specific person. And there are loads of fans for this person and the universe they’ve created and that’s great! And some of them like all the stuff that came before, too. But for Trek there is a huge divide between Roddenberry’s Trek and Kurtzman’s Trek (often wrongly attributed to JJ Abrams). And for Trekkies who don’t like Kurtzman’s Trek Nuniverse but do like Lower Decks, it’s disappointing to see that Lower Decks is being moved into Kurtzman’s Trek. That’s it. That’s all. That’s the gripe. It isn’t about him, it isn’t about what show he directs episodes for, it’s just about him being the creator and ultimate control of an universe that is a reimagining of a beloved existing universe and now he’s getting involved in the one thing he didn’t get involved in before and making part of that new universe that not everyone likes. And no matter how hairs you try to split, it is absolutely HIS universe. So again, OP wondered why fans aren’t excited or are prehating and that’s the answer. Lower Decks wasn’t really in Kurtzman’s Trek Nuniverse and now it’s going to be.
