I was JUST reading a novel where the main character (a librarian, but so am I!) just could not stop her internal monologue about ~the magic of books~ and how excited she was whenever she found someone else who ~understood~ ~the magic of books~

I love a good book as much as the next person but COME ON.

Yeah I think part of it is that people who read books / watch movies / watch TV shows / etc are more likely than average to believe in ~~the power of stories~~ and that's even more true of people who *create* those things. So it's a selection bias thingy to a degree.
