Do you mean things like Kyou Kara Maou, fushigi Yuugi and Ouran High School Host Club? There are a lot of otome games and harem anime aimed at female audiences out there, even if they aren't quite as numerous as the ones aimed at guys.

Ooh maybe I'll look at those then . I knew Ours High Host Club was popular when I was younger but I was very picky about anime around that time after a bdd experience with a harem ish anime.

Pretear is fun, but it sounds like the OP's looking for character depth, and they aren't going to find it there.

I disagree. I think it has depth, in both anime and manga. It might not be incredibly deep, but the characters are more than two dimensional.

Fushigi Yuugi fan here. It's a reverse harem written by a girl and I will always highly recommend it, but it is a product of its time, and it does start out a little weak. It's always fun, but you need to make it to meeting the big bad before it really starts to take off. Some interesting gender and sexuality stuff going on, but again, product of its time so YMMV.

And go with subs if that's something you're picky about. The dub has high and low points and I like it for nostalgia, but the original Japanese has some huge names and is quite good.
