Re: Squicks and NOTPs

Oh man, that's happened to me way too often. I now just IMMEDIATELY filter out the character I hate most when I check my rarepair, because my biggest NoTP is SO often included even when my rarepair is the main pairing, and on at least one occasion, the NoTP wasn't part of it but it was about my ship adopting the hated character (which... would not go well, but of course fics that focus on this character like to pretend he's a woobie baby darling and not a raging violent bigot, so...)

And one fic wound up having half my OTP as an untagged-for bicycle, where he's like... banging two other characters that I do not like, and because only my OTP is tagged, it comes out of nowhere, and I couldn't even skim it for scenes of my ship because any time they're on screen it has to point out that they're in some kind of... I guess it is supposed to be ethical polyamory, just that only one of them is sleeping with other people? It felt squicky to me the way it was done and how the others weren't tagged for. I'm pro polyamory in real life but this is an OTP for me, not just a ship-I-enjoy, you know? And the other characters involved weren't ones I enjoyed on their own, let alone did I want to read about them with a half-an-OTP they never even MET in canon.
