I spent way too long trying to figure out what herb that wasn't parsley snuck into my bunch of store-bought flat-leaf parsley. It looks halfway between flat-leaf parsley and tarragon, and it tasted like gasoline. My father tried it and also felt it tasted distinctly like gasoline.

I never did figure out what it was.

Might you be one of those people for whom cilantro tastes like soap? Because cilantro and flat leaf parsley look similar, though nothing like tarragon, IMO. Most grocery stores don't carry a wide range of fresh herbs in bundles, it seems like there are only a few things it could be...

Good thinking! But no, I am a passionate cilantro lover, and would def recognize cilantro at once.

I think I bought this parsley at an independent grocers in my neighborhood. I'm going to see what other herbs they have the next time I'm there.

I feel like tarragon is most likely, but the pictures of tarragon show it having long, single-bodied leaves, whereas whatever this was had some long singular leaves, mixed with some leaves that split into multiple elongated tips.

Also, the official word on tarragon says nothing about a gasoline taste--though that could just be a genetic quirk of some kind, on my and my fathers' part.
