Yeah, something similar happened to me with Loveless.
I was a big fan of the anime and manga when I was 13, but jfc I was so uncomfortable rewatching it as an adult... still like the manga art tho.

Same here. I really loved it back when I was a kid and spent a good chunk of my allowance buying the manga, but I can’t with it as an adult. I’d still like to know how it ends though.

I just looked up the wikipedia on it - it says that it was last published in 2018 and that its apparently either still going or on a hiatus from what I saw in the article.

I was about to be like, "How did it not ping as problematic?" then I saw you were 13 when you read it first lol.

I was 19 when it began so I probably didn't heard of it until the anime ran in 2005, so 22, and I was like, ergh... because there was so little mainstream BL (especially if you were outside Japan because a lot of stuff didn't get even scanlated), and we get this pedo-bait shit. :(

Lol, 13 year old me really did believe 'age doesn't matter, I'm basically an adult right now because being a teenager is an adult' - thank god I only thought about this with literal fiction instead of doing any kind of irl stuff at the time.

First reaction: what in the Pokemon is this?! I don't ever recall an episode like this wtf

Reading the secret: you're making me wonder if I should just not ever watch the Peach Girl anime -- it was the first manga I read as a kid (11/12). I recently found the anime and couldn't believe it (and it might just remain unwatched...).

Some of them still hold up for me. I rewatched Azumanga Daioh recently and still enjoyed most of it. Others definitely don’t though. Like Sukisho. Ugh, the animation is horrid and the story makes very little sense if you’re not familiar with the game. Not to mention the other uncomfortable stuff.

IMMSE is honestly uncomparable to Azumanga tho, mostly by genre.
now, if you had any fancervise-ey/edgy anime you liked as a teen? yeah, better stay away

I saw Sukisho and was thinking 'huh that sounds familiar', then looked it up - omg this was one of those animes I remember watching in three parts per episode on youtube waaaay back in the day :'D
I'm pretty sure I even had an mp3 of the opening theme as a ringtone on my phone in the 2000s.

one of the reasons why I'm afraid of rewatching Air, Kannazuki no Miko and Vandread. really enjoyed them when I was a teen, but oh boy, those themes nowdays make me cringe a lot haha
also, I'm sorry OP, but I My Me always had a bad reputation in my anime circle even back then. just a premise alone makes me die inside when I think of it now so like... oof, bad taste even for a teen.

That title is a hot mess too, wtf.

I watched some of that and it was just boring, and then read a review of it to see if it was worth finishing. The review said it was a great series, 9/10 and almost as an afterthought said the only problem with it was that the girl was too young for the MC. And that really was considered a minor (no pun intended) quibble back then.

This is me with a lot of books I loved as a kid. Edgar Rice Burroughs still holds up on a storytelling level, but the racism, sexism and other -isms are really glaring to me as an adult.
