Agree to disagree. To me WHD is an enjoyable fun action flick, whereas OHF is a pretty boring movie full of boring characters.

I WILL FIGHT YOU!!!!

Lol, not really.

That is fair. I feel like I was particularly struck by how WHD *should* have been a movie I liked, but wasn't. But obviously tastes vary.

OHF was too serious, while WHD had me thinking "ok but what if they kissed in the secret white house tunnels haha jk unless???"

OP

You mean you didn't feel the blistering chemistry between Gerard Butler/ Aaron Eckhardt/ Morgan Freeman in OHF? /S

Though that does remind me of another thing that annoyed me about WHD - they never followed through on the Channing Tatum/ Maggie Gyllenhaal romance! I would have liked the movie more of if had been a hostage too and they had to work together... but that of course would have made it even more of a cot of DH, in an annoying way.

don't forget Big Game

yeah, I admit I've rewatched WHD more often than OHF, (driving into the oval office!) although I've rewatched them both, both leads are great, but truthfully it was to see Morgan Freeman go, basically, "Fetch me my coffee, 3 sweet n lows, and then we'll see about this situation." Jamie Foxx also does a fantastic job looking fish out of water and then picking up the reins, and I loved the buddy-cop feel except with the President lol.

Actually, it's time for another marathon rewatch. And of Big Game as well. Onni Tommila was fantastic. And Samuel Jackson, ofc.

I completely missed Big Game when it came out - I am keen to watch it, thanks for reminding me off it!

Re: Morgan Freeman, he is another reason why I like OHF better, because, you know, Morgan Freeman. Though I also kind of think both movies might have been better off Morgan Freeman and Jamie Foxx had swapped roles... Mainly because Jamie Foxx and Channing Tatum as a buddy team are missing a straight man, while OHF could do with a bit more humour.

Haha, for me it's exactly the other way around. I enjoyed WHD a lot more and think that it's closer to Die Hard than OHF. OHF took itself took itself too seriously for my taste.

OP

Haha, I know WHD tried to be closer to DH, and that's part of what annoyed me. It was a bit too close in a way that felt more like copying than homage, you know? Whereas I thought the DH bits in OHF were more fun without feeling obvious - like the double crossing agent pretending to be a hostage.

But if this thread is representative, more people like WHD. Maybe I just find grumpy Gerard Butler sexy and that's blinded me to WHD's greatness, lol.
