what bothers me is that people are holding her dating him against her but not the stuff he's done (which i hear is part of a bit/satire anyway, not that it really makes it better) against him.

What people?

A lot of people who looked up to her are disappointed that she's supporting him, but those people already didn't like him. "Experienced Asshole Still At It" wasn't a shock to them. "And Tay Tay Finds It Hot" was.

Being attracted to someone who, among other things, says gross, problematic shit sometimes, does not actually equal finding the problematic shit they say hot. People kid themselves about the person they're with being better than they really are all the time. It's common as dirt. Attraction can be a hell of a drug. Does everyone make stupid dating choices because the love chemicals are flowing and they're tripping balls? No. But it's not a remotely uncommon phenomenon, either.

Being attracted to someone who has chosen to make saying/doing gross, problematic shit a key part of his persona doesn't necessarily mean that you find gross, problematic shit hot, but at the very least it means that it's not a dealbreaker for you.

Taylor Swift's in her mid-thirties. Treating her like a 15-year-old who can't overcome her silly girl hormones long enough to think about what she's doing is pretty fucking gross.

DA

Being willing to date a guy despite him being a shithead is not a good romantic choice, no. But it's a pretty common type of bad romantic choice for people to make, and IDK how much we can generalize what it says about Taylor Swift beyond that she makes bad romantic choices.

It's more than just a romantic choice and you know it.

If you choose to go into a relationship with the guy who never tips and is rude to the janitor, that says something about you and what you're willing to let slide in order to get what you want. This being about bigotry and Taylor Swift doesn't make it different, it just makes it more public.

DA - This is the judgiest shit, like damn dude, worry about your own romantic choices.

You know, equating people who make bad romantic decisions, regardless of why, with "silly teenage girls" is gross. Yet you jumped right to that conflation. Interesting.

Considering you're the one who insists that you can't hold a woman accountable for what they do when the hormones hit, you might want to look in a mirror. Or get back in your time machine and return to your Victorian medical practice.

Yeah, it definitely showcases the different standard famous women are held to. There has genuinely been more judgement and recrimination levelled at her for being willing to date him than at him for actually doing the bullshit.

Also, honestly, yes it does make it better that when Healy does a nazi salute on stage he is doing it to mock, belittle, and undermine neo-nazism. Like, that is actually a very massive detail that is extremely important, and I super side-eye all these "news outlets" that mention him doing a nazi salute on stage and then just...conveniently forget to mention the context in which he's doing it.

I personally find it cringe edgelordism to do a nazi salute on stage as part of your ridicule of neo-nazis (and dude's said plenty of other problematic shit besides), but its not remotely the same thing as doing a nazi salute on stage because you are a neo-nazi.

yeah, i guess what i meant by that is whether or not the mock salute and everything else he'd done as part of this bit was done for satire, it's still now something that's associated with him without those reporting on it mentioning the context (although yes, as you mentioned, people have been way more critical of her than they have been of him, and it feels like people are using this as reasons to turn on her, both in the media and in general).

Yeah, agreed.
