Frustrating people

So I am viewing rec lists for books and someone has asked for fantasy that has an adult female protagonist that doesn't get too dark. The books or series people are reccing are ridiculous. Several with male protagonists (with female 'sidekicks' or love interests), several that are about teenagers, and several that get very dark and gritty. Just because you love a book or series doesn't mean it needs to get recommended every time every where!

People who always see the negative in critique groups. Or always jump to assuming the worst. Like I'm not against critique but there's a way to give it.

I get annoyed with people who think authors and fic writers have a responsibility to change something or take their crit seriously when they make no effort to at least not be an overt asshat about it.

Like tbh this may be a hot tale but really the fic writer doesn't owe it to anyone to agree with your complaint and change their story.

Just because it exists doesn't mean it has to cater to you in particular.

I know people might say this sounds like someone who's just sore about criticism. But really honestly just...I'm sick of people who act like everything on the internet is meant to be for them personally and the mere fact that it's present and they don't like it means it's infringing on them somehow.

I just say this as a salty fic writer who's had and known a few people who had people comment demanding me to take something down or telling me/them to take a thing down and acting like they're doing me a favor by "sparing" me/them the embarrassment".

People who lie about easily verifiable things. Don't tell me you didn't get the email. Just apologize and say you missed it, like a reasonable adult. I WILL dig into my sent folder and send it again, and cc your supervisor about looking into any technical issues your email might have (that we all know don't exist).

Don't tell me you checked the file and made all the corrections yesterday. The folder says that file hasn't been saved for four days. Just say you forgot and you'll start it ASAP, like a reasonable adult. I WILL screenshot that and cc your supervisor to look into any technical issues the folder might have (that we all know don't exist).

tbf, "dark" can have very different meanings to different people, so it's entirely possible that the people who are reccing the darker stuff genuinely don't consider it to be that dark.
