Younger fan here. The main thing that rubs me the wrong way is that it can become quickly very hard to tell whether someone is saying KYS jokingly or if they genuinely want you to kill yourself. It's not something like "I hope you get eaten by sharks" or something exaggerated and kind of silly like that. It's something that someone could do at any time if they happen to get pushed too far.
