I'd LOVE to see more of those fics that don't fundamentally change a character's personality. Like... ABSOLUTELY I see the appeal of 'this badass character is fundamentally submissive and requires a trusted Dom to keep on an even keel' IF they remain the badass I know from canon? I'd LOVE to see that where the author doesn't just decide Dom means 'the most masculine manly man ever' and sub means 'soft and weepy and the girl in the relationship'-- it's always with characters who don't actually fit those descriptors. Like... let a character who's canonically soft and anxious be that AND be a good Dom, let a character who's canonically buff and hairy and masc and willing to throw himself into physical danger be that AND be a sub who sometimes needs a good scene in order to go back out and be his best self.

And similarly with A/B/O, like... if I want to read about a canon badass, masc guy as an omega, I don't want him to suddenly be a wilting flower who wears panties (well, if it's Dean Winchester, he can wear panties, but only because he canonically likes them) and gets called 'princess'?? I want him to be himself, just... now he has a uterus. But it's ALWAYS like... even if a 'non-traditional-looking' omega starts out disguised as something else, the love interest finds out and suddenly the whole personality does a one eighty? Like... I promise you a man with a uterus can wear boxers or briefs and men's clothes, and like or even engage in sporty activities, and presumably in a world where monsters or supervillains exist, fight those just as easily as a man without one, and I can double promise you most of us don't like when other people look at a man's haircut, maybe facial hair, men's clothes, etc, any traditionally masc pursuits/interests... and then decide to use super-feminizing nicknames constantly. It's not cute, it's gross.

Yes, I have read a few dom/sub world fics where the characterization stays on point and the worldbuilding is somewhat thought out but only on recs because otherwise there's waaaaaaaay too much shit to wade through. And I don't rely on the "non-traditional dynamics" tag because 99% of the time it IS the traditional dynamics, just there'll be a maybe a chapter of something else first.

Recs are a good way to go, because yeah... 'non-traditional dynamics' can apparently mean ANYTHING.

There's a ST one right now that does actually go with 'omega consistently passes for alpha and retains all canon interests/attributes, alpha is consistently soft/less aggressive (canon compliant), and also wants to be the one getting railed' but it's a jungle out there (only the dangerous jungle animals are just the likelihood of seeing a canon buff, hairy jock guy get called 'princess' and wear skirts and panties)
