I'm sure there are reasonable criticisms to be had of AO3, but the ones I see most are "how dare they refuse to censor ships I think are problematic" and "how dare they require funds to continue operation", which is... not the reasonable criticism you are looking for, friendo!

Im home from a week-long road trip. Had a great time, got to swim on Santa Monica Beach with a curious sea lion (that was kinda scary, they're huge up close lol and he just came right up to us like HELLO THERE!!!) It seemed like he wanted to vibe to the guy on the pier nearby who was busking with his bass and a drum machine, playing chill, mellow music and everyone on the beach there was just kind of vibing to it, including this sea lion. I gave him some space, and I'd say we all had a nice afternoon.

The ocean water was this beautiful shade of green-blue.

Oh and I recommend Coppertone sport waterproof spf 50 sunscreen, I didn't get burned all day at the beach and I reapplied every half-hour. It worked.

I was given a choice of attending a gig somewhere far away where I would have to drive and not be able to have a drink, or a smaller one in town where I could have a drink. I chose the latter, and I regret it. It was pretty shit. I would probably have been better off going to the larger gig and staying sober, even with the long drive.

I mean I have criticisms of how the site works and how long it takes them to implement things, but it would an incredibly massive stretch to say I hate the site. It's a website, I have no emotions towards it whatsoever other than it being a place I read and post fanfic. I find anyone caring either way to be very odd tbh.

Found someone on tumblr who’s mildly obsessed with an actor I’m also mildly obsessed with. Recommended them a movie of his that they hadn’t seen and they seem to be enjoying it!

This is very sweet. As a kid who grew up watching Hercules and Xena (we watched it every weekend when a new episode aired), I started a rewatch some years ago and for the few episodes I did watch, it held up pretty well. I still keep the moments I had with the show as a dear memory, and now as an adult I can appreciate characters like Gabrielle a lot more. I also really like meadowphoenix's take.

Which games didn't have lore? I feel like most of them do. Even thinking back to house of the dead arcade style game had a summary/"lore" on the side of the machine you could read while waiting your turn.

I love car racing games... I guess there's not much lore there. You're just doing the races. The goal is to win and unlock better vehicles/things you can add to your vehicle to improve your stats.

I'm sincerely asking, what makes AO3 suck for you? And what other site would you recommend?

FF.net is where I used to go, but most of my fandoms are active on AO3.
Wattpad is cute for the "book covers"/image you can add for your stories and the interactive reader bits. But most of what I've found there is probably akin to things I wrote in middle school or my high school days. It's for the youth really.

And Tumblr is too scattered and messy I am constantly switching between this user and that user and this and that.

Old journals and fandom specific archives aren't active like they were ten, fifteen years ago. So what's the issue with AO3 and what alternative would you suggest? I ask sincerely, I don't think you're trolling.

My dad is a big fan of Xena and still watches it from time to time. He says it holds up pretty well.
I love rewatching things I loved as a child. I've never been disappointed going back to old shows.
I'd say give it a go, OP. (If anything, you'll be surprised how many people actually rocked up in Xena who are pretty big today :)).

I still watch Xena and yeah, some things don't hold up, but just the idea of a woman warrior who can do anything and is on a quest for redemption is still, I feel, so rare. And the show does it so damn well.

Also, I love it for the camp value, too. Also the queer stuff. Also Lucy Lawless is an amazing person.

A question for Muslim FS!ers

I'm making Halloween decorations, including some witch and wizard portraits for the walls. Four of the kids potentially invited will be Muslim. I want them to feel included, but at tge same time a portrait of a magic user with a hijab also seems disrespectful?

Any insight on this from Muslims would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Building a large park for the center of my lego city. I’m working on the central building today to enter into a contest tomorrow. I believe the results get posted on Wednesday and then I can finish placing it all next to the market square. It’s the last big thing I’m adding to my city, it’s gotten so large that I don’t have room to grow it anymore, which is just as well because I don’t like the last few years’ modulars much. I have about half and half of official modulars and MOCs for the big buildings and it’s probably 25:75 official vs MOCs for the small features.

My sister is getting married halfway across the country in just one week and suddenly everything seems too complicated to organize and get there and stay there and deal with the family and I'm wondering what are the chances Russia sets off Nuclear Armaggedon before that and put me out of my misery.

I’m NOT Muslim so don’t take this as the final say. But Halloween is a big NO for most Muslims and doing the portraits would be especially bad in the eyes of the American Muslims I know. Many do let their kids dress up and trick or treat so they’re not left out but not all of them do. I highly recommend talking to the parents of the kids beforehand and let them know that you want their kids to feel represented in a way that is respectful of their beliefs and ties to Halloween.

I had an instant pot. My sister took it months ago and at this point I've given up on it. So, I am thinking of getting a new one. Saw walmart has a 3-in-1 that just does pressure cooking, slow cooking, and sauteing for $69 (nice). So, I might save $30 and get that one since it is the only functions I ever actually used.
