This is honestly one of my favorite methods for writing. Some of my personal favorite fics of mine were written at 11pm while I was ridden with seasonal allergies.

I wrote fic while recovering from a cold. I had to rewrite it from the ground up after the mods refused to accept it.

that's not that late to stay up...

(Anonymous) 2023-06-27 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
lol, right?

Depends on when your day starts.

Lol back in the day maybe not. I remember my teenage summers where I'd stay up until 5 or 6 in the morning reading and writing fic. Nowadays? Lol my ass needs to be at work by 8.30 AM and my commute is an hour. My body refuses to operate on less than 6-7 hours of sleep.

Yes it is? Wtf what a weird comment.

Is there some other way to write fics??? Also, I came up with my best fic when I was bedridden and pretty much delirious with a covid-enduced high fever. I mean, I wouldn't want to replicate those circumstances, but damn, that fic is good.
I'd say, give it a go and see what happens.

"Write drunk edit sober" is a classic for a reason!

Thanks for the feedback, y'all! Seeing some pros and seeing some cons here. I still haven't attempted it yet, but I will say it feels like my pussycat is trying to force the issue - she's woken me up at 3am two days in a row!

All of the stories I've sold have been mostly written between 12am and 5am. That's just when my brain works best. To that end, I've picked jobs that allow me to be up and productive then.

Sadly, my fiancee is pretty much the exact opposite...

I stay up all night to write fics fairly regularly. It doesn't particularly change my writing style to a more dream-like one, and the all-nighter fics are not appreciably more or less popular than my daytime fics. Writing an all-nighter does mean the fic needs more careful editing later (especially for stuff like characters getting undressed for sex and then doing it all over again because I forgot they were already undressed).
